Lady Riding a Vespa Scooter Cake

Written by Larissa Voln

Hello everybody, and welcome to my new cake blog! Glad to see you here!

Lady Riding a Vespa Scooter Cake, working headlight
Today I finished working on this very cool project, which I called "Lady Riding a Vespa Scooter Cake".

Let me tell you, those types of cakes are the most challenging but yet the most exciting! Not only I, as a designer, have to tie millions unrelated  (well, to most of us) items together and make them work, but it also requires a person who orders this cake to work with me and participate in creation as it evolves.

It all usually starts from a phone call or an email, where customer explains what he/she is looking for. It is my part then, as a designer, to digest and develop his or her idea and create a unique art project with respect to the taste of my client and the purpose of it being created.

In today's project, the cake was created to celebrate Birthday of a wonderful young woman originally from Italy, who has a lovely ginger cat Simon, practices yoga, loves shopping, enjoys riding her customized Vespa scooter, cooks and appreciates good food, spends some time writing (plans to write two books of her own), chocoholic, leads a healthy life style, funky, fashionable and energetic... Well, those are only few that ended up being translated into sugar. It is her husband who amazed me at how much he actually knows and cares about her. He gave me more relative information that I was able to use in this cake, but he definitely drew a nice picture of what she is.

It took us almost two weeks to put this project together, and we were exchanging emails a few times a day. Well, we did great, I think :) Let me know how she liked it, C.!

Yes! The headlight is actually working!

Reading these kind of posts reminds me of just how technology truly is omnipresent in this day and age, and I am fairly certain that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology. I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as memory gets cheaper, the possibility of copying our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could encounter in my lifetime. (Posted on Nintendo DS running R4i SDHC DS FPost)

I've known her since we were in the second grade and I can say you haven't missed a detail - the chocolate, the Wonka-wrapper, the books, the t-shirt, the keys, Simon and even the curve in her smile! I can't get over how every time I look at it, I notice something new! Congratulations on such an AMAZING job and Happy Birthday M!

Larissa, It was an absolute pleasure working with you on this cake! Your vision and talent managed to transform an eclectic and some would say “crazy” mix of seemingly unrelated items into a true work of art. For those reading this blog and post I can truly say that the only thing (besides the look on my wife’s face when she first saw the cake) that outshined the cake design itself was the flavor! Larissa, managed to make the most luscious, moist and velvety chocolate cake ever!!! Thank you once again for putting up with my craziness! C
